David Heckler was born in Sellersville and raised in Franconia Township. He is a 1979 graduate of Souderton Area High School and currently resides in Perkasie.
He obtained a B.S. in Physics from University of Delaware and a Masters of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Mount Airy, Philadelphia.
He served in the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Lutheran Church from 1987 to 2009. In addition to part-time pastorates, he had full-time pastorates at St. James, Hobbie; St. Mark’s, Pond Hill; Maidencreek, Blandon and St. Paul’s Hawley. He also served as resident musician for joint Lutheran/Episcopal Saturday evening Eucharists in Hamlin and he has been involved in many other ecumenical partnerships through his ministry. He became Pastor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Applebachsville in 2009.
He has been very active in community activities such as Crop Walks, Habitat for Humanity and the Boy Scouts of America.
His core convictions and sense of call is: “To me, ministry’s not just a job – it’s a calling, a passion, a privilege, and a constant challenge. And because the love of God in Christ is always reaching out in forgiving love, I continually seek to stir my people to reach beyond themselves – to grow so that they may serve, to find joy in serving others, to live rather than just survive.”
